  "body": "HONG KONG - Gold prices hit a record high above US$2,100 an ounce on Dec 4 as traders grow increasingly confident the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in the new year.\n\nThe precious metal surged 3.1 per cent to US$2,135.39 in early Asian trade, topping the previous all-time high it set on Aug 7, 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, before paring much of those gains. It was trading at US$2085.92, up 0.7 per cent, as at 10.19am."
